Recently, Indonesia has been hit by flooding cases several times, especially our two big cities, Jakarta and Surabaya. As pictured in the newspaper, the flood level was no joke as it was half the car and surely we can imagine how dangerous it could be for the car to continue, for it can damage the car’s engine.
Today, specifically just now, a hard rain poured to almost all areas in Surabaya. Both the west and the east sides of Surabaya have been pooled by flood. Some people got stuck in their cars, while others, including me, stranded inside offices or homes. In many ways, I feel thankful that I still have a shelter; I just cannot imagine what it would be if we happen to be outside during that moment and caught by a very hard rain, making sure we are all wet head to toe..
Plants and animals, however, are not free from the negative impact the flood brings as it destroyed their habitats. Flood can be destructive towards anything, be it living or inanimate ones, and this is concerning to the environment if there’s no measure taken to prevent growing this problem.
Littering is one and foremost public concern in our society up to this moment regarding this flooding issue. Non-renewable resource such as plastic have scattered around the roads and clogged the sewerage, making the rain water couldn’t find its way to go under easily. This has put many lives in danger for it triggers road congestion and health problems from diarrhea, skin disease, influenza to malaria.
Therefore, I would like to once again encourage everyone to care about our place of living together by littering properly as that’s the least we can do to fight this nature issue.
